Displaying Recipes

You might want to display your latest recipes on the homepage, or have a separate recipe overview page where your visitors can filter by different options to find the exact recipe they are looking for.

Built-in Theme Options

The default way of using WP Recipe Maker is to add recipes as part of a regular post, so you can then use any method your theme provides for displaying those posts. It will work just like it does for non-recipe posts.

WP Ultimate Post Grid Integration

Alternatively, you could make use of a grid plugin for even more options. This page uses our WP Ultimate Post Grid Premium plugin to present the recipes in a nice, filterable recipe grid. Perfect for a recipe overview page.

WP Ultimate Post Grid is a separate plugin that’s not limited to recipes and can be used for other post types as well. There’s both a free and Premium version and it fully integrates with WP Recipe Maker.

Learn more in our documentation and check out the different examples of what you can achieve below!

Recipe Grid with Stars & Dropdown Filters

Any of the recipe taxonomies can become a filter and any of the recipe shortcodes (like the recipe rating) can be displayed in the grid template:

Recipe Grid with Custom Field Filters

Filters can be placed wherever you want and there are different filter types with many options you can set to fit your needs.

In this example, we have a text search filter and custom field filters to allow visitors to find recipes by nutrition facts, cooking times and recipe rating:

+Search
+Recipe Rating
All
4+ Stars
+Calories per Serving
+Total Time

Recipe Index

Not looking for a visual grid but rather a simple index? That’s possible with WP Ultimate Post Grid as well! Just have a look at the example below, which is basically a 1 column grid using the “Index” template. The “Dynamic Order” feature was used to make this simple index interactive.

Using WP Recipe Maker with other grid plugins

There’s a lot possible with both the free and Premium plugin of WP Ultimate Post Grid, so make sure to learn more over here. If you’re looking for a different grid solution, we can also recommend FacetWP, which is compatible with WP Recipe Maker as well!
