Homemade Natural Soap
Not every recipe is meant to be eaten. WP Recipe Maker handles DIY projects, crafts and other how-to instructions just as well, and this soap recipe shows how.
This is a demo of our recipe plugin. Lye is caustic and needs real safety precautions, so please follow a tested soap-making guide if you want to make soap yourself.
Recipes that aren’t food
Google uses different structured data for food recipes and for how-to instructions. Set a recipe’s type to “How-to” and WP Recipe Maker outputs HowTo metadata instead of Recipe metadata: supplies instead of ingredients, tools instead of equipment, and no nutrition or cuisine.
Everything else works like it does for food: the times, the adjustable yield (5 bars here), step photos, timers and printing.
What a how-to recipe card can show
- A list of tools, like the mixing bowl and soap molds.
- Supplies with amounts that scale when you change the number of bars.
- A photo for every step, so readers can check their progress.
- A custom “Resting Time” for the 48 hours the soap needs to set.
Try it on this recipe card
- Metadata for How-to Instructions: The card outputs HowTo metadata for Google instead of Recipe metadata.
- Clickable Images for Lightbox: Every step has a photo. Click one to see it full size.
- Kitchen Timer: Start the 5-minute stirring timer in step 2.
- Adjustable Servings: Make 10 bars instead of 5 and the supplies double.
